Our friend Morris needs our help now!

Our good friend Jackie "Morris" Chen suffered a massive heart attack on Saturday, August 30. The attack proved too powerful for the big-hearted Mo who is currently at Shand's awaiting a heart transplant.

Update from Wendy, Morris continues to be stable but his heart is weakening. They are trying daily to get his lungs cleaned out as that is his biggest hurdle right now. They have begun all the tests, review of history etc for the transplant center and hopefully we will know something by the end of the week. They had a physical therapist working with him yesterday to get him on his feet to encourage circulation. Lily and Paula are on their way up to Gainesville as of 4am this morning and Ehren and I will be going up on Friday for the day.

Not having anyone visiting on a daily basis makes for a lonely/frightening situation for Morris.  I would like to start a little campaign of people sending cards - no flowers or anything - just cards of encouragement to keep him going. I think it would help. As soon as I get an address where cards can be sent to - to make sure he gets them, the address will be posted as sone at it is available.

Please don't forget that those who missed the past events can still become involved in our continuing support for Mo.

Our next function will be at John Pierson's House - Saturday, September 20th. Please click for flier  - let's work to get the word out this week.

At 6:00 p.m. the public is invited to join volunteers at the "Surfrider / Buzz 103.1 Coastal Cleanup Trash Bash" at Gators Dockside, 269 Port St. Lucie Blvd. The event will feature a food buffet, live music and a premier of the environmentally-themed surf movie Out There at 7 p.m. Performances by Fillmore East and Moska Project will follow the movie. An ongoing prize raffle will be held throughout the evening. Prizes include surfboards, surf gear, skateboards, hand-carved tikis, gift certificates and merchandise donated by local merchants. A silent art auction will benefit Surfrider volunteer Morris Chen, who recently suffered a massive heart attack and is in need of a heart transplant.

For additional information, call 772.361.3253 or go to www.tcsurfrider.org, www.myspace.com/tcsurfrider or e-mail info@tcsurfrider.org.We will also be working on a Poker Run in the near future and more car washes. If anyone has any other ideas, please don't hesitate to bring it up and let's get rolling.

On Saturday, September 13, the Treasure Coast community rallied together to raise funds for our good friend Jackie "Morris" Chen. Thanks again to everybody - keep Mo in your hearts and prayers

A native of Jensen Beach, Chen is well-known throughout the surfing community for his good nature and generosity, spending most of his free time at local beaches surfing and fishing with friends and son Ehren. Both father and son are active volunteers for the Treasure Coast Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.

All links will open in a new window.

Now that Morris has been transfered to Shand's for his needed transplant

He needs our prayers, love and our continued financial support.
